Introduction

During 2002 and 2003, CEN and ETSI collaborated on the production of a the report in response to the Communication on "Network and Information Security: proposal for a European Policy Approach" [COM(2001)298 final pdf document opens a new window], and the Council Resolution of 28 January 2002 pdf document opens a new window "On a common approach and specific actions in the area of network and information security".

Following the report’s delivery, the Network and Information Security Steering Group (NISSG) was created by the ICT Standards Board in March 2004 to ensure that the standardization requirements, expressed in the report, get implemented.

The NISSG has worked in the period March 2006 till March 2007 on an update of this report opens a new window.

In the production of the report, NISSG has maintained close interfaces with the European Network and Information Security Agency, ENISA (www.enisa.europa.eu opens a new window).

Quite differently from the report of 2003 the list of standards and specifications is now no longer an annex to the report but is available on-line from a web-site hosted by ITU-T. Access to this on-line repository is via http://www.itu.int/ITU-T/studygroups/com17/ict opens a new window. The information available there was initiated by ITU-T Study Group 17, but in January 2007 the initiative became a collaborative effort when the European Network and Information Security Agency (ENISA) and the Network and Information Security Steering Group (NISSG) joined Study Group 17 in the project.
