eEurope An Information Society for all was launched by the European Commission on 8 December 1999.
The eEurope
initiative
is a key element in the strategy of modernizing the European economy.
See http://europa.eu.int/comm/information_society/eeurope/index_en.htm
.
eEurope 2002 came with a number of actions lines to which
standardization responded with a Rolling Action Plan.
The
Rolling Action Plan in response to eEurope 2002 was established
in July 2001. A revised version of this common
rolling Action Plan
,
namely the contribution of European Standardization to the eEurope
Initiative, has been issued in July 2002.
eEurope 2005 Action Plan focuses on online public services
and e-business including the enabling infrastructure elements
such as broadband and security.
CEN
, CENELEC
and ETSI
,
the recognized European Standards Organizations (ESOs) and other
ICTSB members, continue to contribute to the eEurope initiative
with their competence in standardization.
The ICTSB, especially with its work on Design for All and Assistive Technologies and the European Electronic Signature Standardization Initiative provides the necessary co-ordination among the ESOs and other Standards Developing Organizations (SDOs) for efficient and timely standardization activities. The ICTSB also clarifies and refines on the standardization requirements.
